THE JOYFUL MUSIC OF THE SPHERES

I love considering the universe using musical metaphors. After all, the Universe is the visible and audible manifestation of the invisible and inaudible “Music of the Spheres.”

Honoring once again my friend and engaging novelist, Hugh Malafry, I will share yet another excerpt from his BLUE SHAMAN trilogy, Vol II Caverns of Oranac. This excerpt speaks to the fine tuning of human affairs with Heavenly ordinances and the ill consequence of being off-tune.

This is a dialogue between the shaman, Morgon Kara, and Rakastaa, one of his proteges, who is eager to learn the art of the shapers. We come in at the middle of their dialogue where Morgon Kara begins teaching Rakastaa about the art of the shapers.

Morgon Kara rose and went to the cabinet where he took up Rakastaa’s Oud [a musical instrument]. He sat with her and plucked each of its thirteen strings in turn, listening carefully to the tone they made. “It is out of tune,” he said.

“Do you play?” She took it from him. “This one’s tuned in groups of two with the seventh. Like this: B E A D G C F.” She carefully adjusted the tension of the strings until she was content with their tone and handed it back to him.

“Listen.” Morgon Kara plucked two strings and Rakastaa listened carefully to the note. “What did you hear?” “A high and a slightly lower note,” she said.

“And between them?” He plucked the stings again.

“A pulse?”

“They’re still out of tune. The throbbing is caused by interference between two vibrations.” Morgon Kara carefully tuned the second string. “Now listen.”

“An intensification of sound,” she said.

“Now the vibrations are resonant, each reinforces the other, and they are in unison. Yet, without form given to the vibration by the wood of the chamber you would hear very little; just a whisper on the air. Take away the air and you would see the strings vibrate but hear nothing.” He took her hand and placed her fingertips on the instrument. “Watch the low string.” Morgon Kara plucked the string strung high.

“It’s vibrating to the vibration of the high string,” she said.

“The higher vibration sets the lower vibrating in unison with it; if not properly tuned these, too, interfere. Think of this world as the Oud,” Morgon Kara said. “To this world the Otherworld is the higher vibration, and these outer realms made to vibrate to it. The body is vibration, mind is vibration, heart is vibration, soul is vibration, and each realm vibrates to its tone as strings on a single instrument. When there is unison they all vibrate together in resonance. When there is not, there are pulses, beats that interfere with the higher vibration, and the beating of one against another can tear a life apart, indeed, a world apart.”

“And that is conflict?”

“It is the root of all illness not to resonate to the higher vibration of life,” Morgon Kara said. “The higher vibration penetrates the lower, but like the strings of an instrument each realm, physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, is uniquely tuned and has integrity in its own right, but only when they are attuned together in life are they in unison.”

“And this bears on the art of shaping?” Rakastaa said.

“It does. For in the time when the earth was finely tuned, and rich with the substance of connection to the Otherworld, the art of manifestation was harmonious with those realms, and might be virtually instantaneous.”

“As in a miracle?” she said.

“You are of a lively mind tonight,” Morgon Kara said.

“Teach me,” she said, “teach me everything.”

A good metaphor saves a lot of words — so I need say nothing more about shaping.

I will close early with this comment about the year 2025. In numerology the new year ahead is a 9, signifying a time of completed cycles. The Christ Spirit and Consciousness is incarnate on Earth in the New Body of Man. The “Second Coming” is completed in an apocalypse of Light. The mystery of God is finished on earth in Man restored. This is the Day which the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
