Creating the New Earth Together

IT’S BEEN OVER TEN-THOUSAND YEARS since Cain slew his brother Abel — a biblical story of ancient Humankind as told by Moses in Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament, introducing murder into the early formative consciousness of humanity.

I’m halfway into a thick volume entitled “THE HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT WORLD ~ From the Earliest Accounts to the Fall of Rome,” authored by Susan Wise Bauer. It has inspired the sad title of this blog post, as it’s all about one war after another. Cain set the pattern for murder in human consciousness, and that pattern has been shaping human behavior to this very day.

How on God’s Good Green Earth does our specie think that war is a sensible and viable path to peace?! To a way of resolving our differences?! Indeed, to a legitimate way of increasing our land holdings and extending our national boarders?! To use a common vulgate, “Who in hell do we think we are that we can impose our way of thinking, living and governing on other nations and the rest of the world?!” What utter arrogance. I don’t care what the Gita says about the “Art of War.” There’s nothing artistic about killing one another and laying waste our neighbors’ cities and homelands, of dropping bombs on the hallowed ground of Mother Earth and on her children.

Indeed, we are a warring and murderous species ~ from the day Cain slew his brother up to this very day in time when the president of the USA wages war on a nation in the Middle East. Guns and bombs have one sole purpose, and that is to kill and destroy life. We’re not just destroyers of life. We’re suicidal. What we do to “others” we do to ourselves. In truth, there are no “others.” There’s just us, one human species. And that’s all I have to say about that!

Man gives and man destroys what God giveth. Cursed is the earth for man’s murderous ways. War is a murderous exercise in insanity, no matter how rationally it is justified. “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21) Selah!
