Continuing in this series on The Thymus Gland and the Spirit of Purification, and the theme of the previous post, citing Dr. Joan Borysenko’s professional perspective on Plato’s metaphorical description of the process of transformation as an emergence from out of the “cave” of isolation into the light of day — along with my own perspectives shared in my book SACRED ANATOMY:

    The traditional way [of treating an ill condition] generally prevails as the person proceeds to undertake a life-long regimen of medication to keep the symptoms suppressed and death at bay, and it is sometimes like pulling teeth to get a person to let go of the grip he/she has on the doctor’s “diagnosis.”  This only tends to assure the permanency of the condition by sending the message to the brain that in order to be able to continue treating the diabetes, for instance, the “disease” must be maintained in the body.  As long as the symptoms of dis-ease are being suppressed and not heeded for their message, and the appropriate action to address the cause is withheld, then the healing process is disrupted, thus making the symptoms of dis-ease necessary and prolonging the inappropriate therapeutic action of symptom-suppression. Where this suppression is being accomplished, as with most therapies, by the use of harsh and imposing chemicals, it can become dangerously toxic to the rest of the body over time.

[This also applies to alcohol and drug addictions as well as mental illness. One must maintain one’s identity as an “alcoholic,” for example, in order to participate in an AA program.]

    I hyphenate the word “dis-ease” in order to remind myself as a physician, and to inform my patients,  that we are not treating a “condition,” which the word “disease” implies,  but simply listening to the places where the person is experiencing the discomfort or pain for messages from the subconscious signaling where changes need to be made in one’s life style and attitude, as well as what kind of support can be given to enable the healing process already underway.  Dis-ease is always an indication that a healing process is underway. This process gets underway at the moment of insult or injury and starts with the subconscious mind asking for the cooperation and assistance of the conscious mind.  Pain and discomfort is its way of asking.  When the subconscious is satisfied that help is being given and changes are beginning to be made, the symptoms may be turned off, simply because they are no longer necessary. In the case of a fever, the temperature will be turned down when the purpose for the fever — the incineration of toxins — is satisfied.  What thwarts the healing process most is failure on the part of the physician, and the person experiencing the dis-ease, to hear what the body is trying to convey, and therefore failing to render the appropriate care and assistance. 

   Often that message does not get through to the conscious mind until the individual is at death’s door.  Even then a radical shift in consciousness, or in the vibratory pattern maintaining the ill condition, can bring about miraculous shifts in the healing process and the person suddenly begins to manifest that altered state in the physical body itself.  Remissions of illness occur.   Life prevails.  Sometimes the answer is not available until it becomes evident that one’s life is at stake and death seems imminent. Such intensities of energy create pressure inside the subconscious which engenders the feeling that one has been backed into a corner where it appears there is no way out but death, when suddenly one looks up in prayer to a higher Source of power and the answer comes popping up from out of the subconscious, as though caught up in the sudden upward flow of prayerful energy and sucked into the conscious mind.   Like the proverbial bar of soap that, when squeezed in a fist, will go in the direction it is pointed, we sink or swim in the ocean of life depending on what direction our deepest and most heartfelt response is given.

   Dr. Borysenko sites Victor Frankel’s moving story from his book, Man’s Search For Meaning, in which he relates how he survived four Nazi death camps simply by looking up to a higher power in times of crisis, therein turning his obviously limiting circumstances and horrible suffering into opportunities for discovering the genius of life’s indomitable transforming spirit.

…In those most terrible of times some people succumbed to the inevitable epidemics that swept the camp, dying before the brutality of the Nazis and the fire of the ovens could consume them. But those who were able to find some meaning in their suffering were more likely to hold onto life….  Frankel and others like him created ritual out of horror, growth out of destruction by choosing to believe that there was some transcendent meaning to their suffering.

   She then brings it all home for me when she focuses in on the core purpose for all of life’s experiences and challenges, which can lead us to further spiritual discovery and growth: 

    When we set our sights on a higher meaning, we automatically cast ourselves in the role of the dweller at the threshold, an initiate in a great story.  We’re not powerless, trapped or worthless.  We are passing through the fire on the way to a purification of sufficient value that our suffering becomes worthwhile when weighed against it.  Part of the value of suffering and dwelling at the threshold is that it initiates or intensifies the search for what is most sacred.  For only in placing our minds on the promise of that sacredness can we emerge from the liminal period not only intact but transformed, healed.                          

    The late American psychologist, Abraham Maslow, spoke of the deep need to find not only personal meaning in our lives but trans-personal, or spiritual.  A need is like a biological drive, an instinct.   It’s part of the genes, part of the race memories that form the collective unconscious that all people share.  When a biological drive is thwarted the organism suffers in some way.  The particular kind of suffering that accompanies a thwarted drive for trans-personal meaning is a feeling of emptiness, of meaninglessness about life that can progress to depression if the need isn’t attended to.

   I love where Joan leads in the direction of discovering what is most sacred inside ourselves as the purification process burns away the outer shell of our substitute self only to reveal the authentic Self. The analogy comes to mind of a kettle of molten gold bubbling inside a furnace with the dross floating to the top to be scrapped off and discarded.  What remains is the purified precious metal.  I am, and we each one are, as “gold tried in fire” and found worthy of being called precious and lovable as we emerge through the fire of the Spirit of Purification, which stands guarding the way to the Tree of Life in the fourth plane of being.

   I see the drive inside of us toward spiritual meaning, toward the experience of union with God, as being much more than genetic and biological.  I see it as the irresistible compulsion of spirit, of love itself, to find expression through human hearts in this world, a world which has tried without success to suppress and even destroy its expression down through the ages.  This futile attempt to suppress love has been the basic, underlying cause of all human sufferings, including mental depression — especially mental depression, for it is the false ego usurping control of our lives through the capacity of the human mind that has put forth the greatest effort to both prevent love from governing human hearts and to subdue the natural processes of life to serve its own ends.  The human mind is far too small a capacity for the false ego to use in its attempts to hold back the forces of the natural world and to thwart the purposes of God for humanity.  It may summon the help of the heart, a much larger capacity, by putting up dams of resistance in the form of ill feelings and judgments.  But all the dams it puts up cannot hold back the purifying waters of the Spirit of Purification. They finally break asunder, often bringing untold suffering, mental anguish and insanity into the lives of human beings.  Even through all of this, the truth of love can be revealed. This is so on both the individual and the collective levels. The Spirit of Purification is very much at work today cleansing the hearts of human beings and the collective heart of humanity of fear, hatred and terror.  

   The false ego itself, individually and collectively, is deflated in pattern after pattern of failure, until it grows weary and tired of resisting the irresistible spirit of love.  It is in the wake of such failures that the truth of the One present, but heretofore missing in action, has the opportunity to come forth and allow the false ego to dissolve and pass away.  Both mind and heart are thus transformed by the coming forth of the angel and the radiation of love that is even now shining brightly on earth through a growing number of hearts.  Nothing can thwart the compelling and irresistible power of love to transform human beings and to restore the world back into a place of beauty, love and light.

   Actually, the world of beauty, love and light exists already in the fourth plane of being.  All it takes to know it is for each one to cross over the threshold of purification by fire and enter into it.  The kingdom of heaven is then surely known to be within.  Upon entering in, one is wise to simply abide there and from this place bring forth beauty, love and light into one’s world, now seen as a creative field to offer love, truth and life into rather than a world of hell and chaos from which one sought ways to escape.  For what wanted to escape no longer exists, and the one who has come forth, the angel of light and sound, is eternal and is not going anywhere but always lives in heaven and is delighted when received by his/her own in this world. Crossing the Dark Threshold . . . . . . into the Light of Day

“Waves of anger and fear Circulate over the bright And darkened lands of the earth . . . .”    (W.H. Auden, September 1,1939)

Plato described the transition from the old self to the authentic Self as moving from out of “the cave” of isolation, where life is observed as confused reflections on the walls of the cave, into the light of day where one is fully engaged as a liver of life rather than an observer only.

This passage of the soul from out of the dark cave and into the light of day is made much easier with the assistance of a “spiritual midwife,” or mentor.  One need not go it alone these days with the many spiritual guides and personal transformation facilitators available. 

 One such spiritual midwife, and “guru” to many, is Dr. Joan Borysenko, clinical psychologist and medical scientist, who has done much work in body-mind healing and spiritual transformation.  She offers some professional insight into this process of transformation in a tape series entitled, “The Power of the Mind to Heal.” With her permission, I would like to share with you now an excerpt from these tapes, primarily for the grounding in the work-a-day world her words provide, but also for the profound gift she brings into the healing field through her expression and her deep and compassionate understanding of humanity’s state of amnesia, out of which many today are awakening and struggling to make sense out of the events of a dawning new age which we are all seeing and experiencing in a new way.

From Dr. Borysenko’s tapes:

   “The events that call us forth from Plato’s ‘Cave’ are different for each of us, and perhaps the best prayer in times of trouble is not to pray for the troubles to cease but to pray that our hearts and minds stay open to change so that we’ll emerge from our crisis transformed, wiser and more loving.

   “Unfortunately we’ve lost our cultural understanding of the value of darkness. Suffering and pain are downright unpopular in a culture that’s addicted to ‘positive thinking.’  But a lot of what passes as ‘positive thinking’ isn’t positive at all . . . .  A lot of us slap on a veneer of positivity and phony faith to hide a heart full of pain and fear.

   “The psychologist Carl Jung put it very clearly when he said that we can’t find the light by imagining good things.  The only way to the light is to go back out through the darkness.  Then we can emerge transformed with truly changed minds. 

   “The mythologist, Joseph Campbell, said, ‘one thing that comes out in myths is at the bottom of the abyss comes the voice of salvation. The black moment is the moment when the real message of transformation is going to come. At the darkest moment comes the light.’”

This has certainly been true in my own experience of dark times.  Another way this has been expressed is “The darkest hour is the one before the dawn.”  Some of my best days have been after two or three days of internal void and mental cloudiness, passing through layers in the veil. We may be fortunate to have had someone represent the light of Being to us so vividly and powerfully that we are able to forge a path all the way to the most sacred and holy place within us and perhaps even fuse in rapturous union with the Beloved, losing ourselves to the world and entirely into the arms of Love.  Sometimes, in such ecstatic experiences “in the light,” the path we forged with the help of another’s light closes up behind us and we lose our way back out into the world.  We leave the world to ascend the mountain of spiritual attainment and enlightenment, where we stay for a season knowing that we must return to the world we left behind.

Often we have to find our way back out on our own through a heart cluttered with fears and doubts and a mind rigidly structured with beliefs and prejudices of sorts we never even imagined were there.  This time, however, we have only our own light, which by now we have learned to shine, to light up the path leading out into the world of hard facts and experiences. For me, finding my way back out into the light of day where I could be of real value and service to others has been the greatest test of my spiritual awakening and transformation.  The most difficult of tasks has been to learn how to reach out and to touch people where they are.  I could not have done it without help, without someone to at least provide a sounding board for clarifying issues and validating my own gut perceptions and new-found sense of true self-worth.  One way and the other, both in going in to find oneself and in coming out to reveal the wonderful one I discovered my Self to be, one has to traverse the darkness of the cave where the false, isolated self spent its entire life wandering around in a solitary way.

Dr. Borysenko describes this transitional period from her professional point of view as represented quite often by physical, mental and emotional symptoms of so-called “dysfunction.”

   “Not only have we lost our appreciation of the value of darkness as an authentic path to the light, we’ve also lost the priesthood whose function it was to bring us through the transitions.  All too often our religious priesthood is as out of touch with sources of wisdom as is our secular priesthood—therapists and psychiatrists [and I would include here health care physicians] who think more in terms of pathology than they do of growth and potential.

   “We can learn a great deal about approaching these times of transition by observing how the priesthood of more primitive societies treats people in transition—whether the transition comes unbidden or whether it is set into motion by a special ritual or rite of passage.

   “The anthropologist, Victor Turner, is well known for his study of the ritual process in different cultures.  He defines a ritual as a ‘rite of passage,’ a transition between two distinct states of being, or stations in society.  The traditional rite of passageway in primitive cultures consists of three distinct stages: the separation from one’s previous state of being; the liminal period during which you dwell between two worlds, not here and not there; and the reincorporation afterwards into some new role or status in the society.

   “The ambiguous intermediate state of liminality is a kind of dwelling at the threshold of a new life.  It’s often compared to being in the womb, in a state of darkness and invisibility, or ‘wandering in the wilderness.’ The Jews wandered in the wilderness for forty years when they left bondage in Egypt, a time of dwelling at the threshold before they were re-born to a new life in Palestine. Jesus, too, wandered for forty days in the wilderness when he died to his old self, the carpenter, and was reborn to his God Self.

   “Each of us, in that very same movement from our separate ego to our God Self, has to do some wandering in exile and in this period we may feel confused, unhappy and like we have nothing left to hold onto.  If our culture hadn’t gotten so out of touch with the meaning of ritual and myth, we would know that this ‘no-man’s land’, the ‘dark night of the soul’ between the death of our old self and the birth of our new Self was grace, not ‘mental illness’ or ‘PMS’.”

What a wonderful and empowering attitude to hold toward a health crisis, or a life crisis, that might come our way seemingly just about the time we thought everything was going so well in our lives. I know for a fact, just from my own personal experience with physical illness, that unresolved inner issues come up to be addressed when the physical body is undergoing a viral cleansing, for example. One is compelled to be thankful for such interruptions sent by life perhaps to get one’s attention. It is believed by some psychologists that our own sub-conscious minds create the symptoms of dis-ease in order to alert us to the need to address important issues in our lives.   We can rest in assurance that all is well during times of crisis rather than tense up in fear of the unknown.  Healing can come quickly as we listen to our inner voice for the very specific message that will open the door to us for transformation. It is there if we are quiet enough, and honest enough, to hear it. Joan continues:

“The collective hypnosis—our unconscious adherence to the familiar beliefs that guide our lives—is broken in the liminal period, in that time of exile, in exactly the same way our own uncelebrated life crises strip us of what we know, delivering us to the threshold of the unknown. In times of transition we awaken from the familiar terrain of life and find ourselves in alien territory.  If we know that this frightening, unknown period was a necessary transition, like the transition period of labor, we could more easily ask for whatever help was needed, and more patiently hold on and wait for the birth.  We could take comfort that the process was natural, not pathological.    Each dark night and each little death peals away a layer of conditioning, restoring our sight so that we can see more clearly.  What a difference it would make if a person in the throes of a life crisis were called an ‘initiate’ and then skillfully led to a rebirth. Instead, our psychological initiates are often labeled neurotic, psychotic, addictive or character disordered, labels that create helplessness and low self-esteem. These labels reinforce the fearful story that we are damaged and less than whole.    Some of the power of the ‘Twelve-Step Recovery Program’ comes from the context in which addiction in placed. In anonymous programs, addictions are transitions between a life where the person was out of touch with a higher power and one in which the reality of that power becomes not only the force for recovery but also a renewal of the meaning of life. Addiction as a liminal experience, for those who are willing to see it in that light, creates excitement, empowerment and even gratitude for the addiction as a guide to a new, more self-aware and fulfilling life.”

It is one thing to admit that one’s physical body is addicted to a drug, such as alcohol, and to take the necessary steps toward sobriety and non-dependency.  It is another thing entirely to take on the label of “alcoholic” as one’s identity.  The statements “I am an alcoholic” or “I am a drug addict” can serve to dispel patterns of denial, but it isn’t the truth of who one is.  Such firmly held fixations in consciousness could come to hide awareness of one’s real identity.  This can set up a circular codependent relationship between condition and treatment in which one must continue being an “alcoholic” in order to participate in the process of treatment, and vice versa.  Further, one might be prone to think that, without that identity, one would become as nothing.

In the health field, similar situations arise where one becomes identified with the “disease” for which one is being treated.  To continue saying, for example, “I am a diabetic” fixes the condition of diabetes even more firmly in consciousness, which in turn creates the vibrational terrain that determines health and dis-ease in the body-mind continuum.  What if one were to say instead, for example, “I am fine.  My body, however, is having some difficulty handling sugar at this time, so I will withhold sugar from my diet until such time as I have corrected the reason(s) for the difficulty?” This, in my view, would be more accurate as well as the intelligent and cooperative first step to take toward a holistic approach to healing while engaging orthodox, traditional disciplines and therapeutic methodologies.   (Excerpted from Sacred Anatomy)

The “Angelic Gland”

“What if we actually knew each other as angels and called each other by our tonal, angelic names and that we loved one another so much that we could do no harm but only blessing toward one another? What if we knew only oneness and isolation were not even possible?”

I think the awareness that we are angels incarnate in human forms is fairly widespread.  My post today is an excerpt from my book SACRED ANATOMY – where spirit and flesh dance in the fires of creation, which expands on the chapter’s topic of the Thymus Gland and the Spirit of Purification. 

This was written some thirty years ago when I was in the throes of a profound and traumatic spiritual awakening. My consciousness was literally exploding with one realization after another, and I was compelled to write them down and share them.  I had ascended the mountain top and the world of form lay before me in sacred primal nakedness.  I saw with new eyes and I was enlightened and whelmed by what I was seeing.  I’ve come down from the mountain top and joined my fellow travelers in the valley of shadows where purification is in full force, but my memories of those days of awakening in consciousness are vivid.  I would like to have remained in the light of the mountain top, but that’s not how enlightenment works. “Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water” is how it works — only now I chop wood and carry water with a keen awareness of who I Am, and with an assurance that all is well.  I do long for the full revelation of angelic being through all of Humanity, as the excerpt above from the Foreword of my book expresses: “What if we actually knew each other as angels. . . .”   

The “Angelic Gland”

   The Thymus is often referred to as the “angelic gland” by virtue of the role it plays in keeping the child’s skin and countenance clear and translucent.  This changes as the child approaches puberty and the thymus gland shrinks in order that the maturing body may adapt to a lower vibratory world so as not to be crushed by the violence therein.  A medical procedure is employed to shrink the thymus gland with x-ray radiation should this natural atrophy not occur in a timely fashion.  This does not eliminate or diminish the focus of spirit, however.  Even if the gland is removed by surgery, the essence of spirit focused here remains present and operative, generating the fine substance of the heart.

[Note: Around puberty the T cells migrate to the bone marrow as the thymus shrinks in size. Later on, in our “golden years,” the thymus gland reconstitutes and returns to its original size and function. This accounts for the childlike countenance and sweet disposition that often comes over the elderly.]

   The Spirit of Purification works at this fourth vibratory level in the body temple to guard the sacred space of the upper region in the cranium and keep anything from entering here that would defile or in any way hurt this sanctum.  The golden essence of love’s light is constantly intensified and clarified in order to assure a pure-hearted expression of creative power.  Thus the color gold was seen by John in the region of the paps of this One like unto the Son of man.

   Uranda closes Lesson Forty-two in his Steps to Mastership with these reassuring words:

“And girt about the paps with a golden girdle.”  And He is girt about the MIDDLE PART OF HIS BEING with a Golden Girdle, the Golden Girdle of PERFECT SOUL EXPRESSION which surrounds and fills the vital parts of Being.  The Solar Center, which is the throne of so-called subconscious mind; the Heart, the throne of all feeling and emotion; the Lungs, the throne of Spirit cleansing and Life-giving—ALL are GIRT ABOUT with the PERFECT BEING OF OUR FATHER, the MASTER-SELF WITHIN. Such must be the state of those who would enter in and SEE the glories of  Fourth Plane Being.  Meditate upon these revelations and let them fill thy Life and Light thy Way, that thy attainment may be sure.

   The only thing standing in the way of attainment in Fourth Plane Being is the veil of the heart which connects the third level of being with the fourth. This veil has become laden with the residue of past failures, both individual and collective, so that it has taken on an opaque and thick texture and consistency. To enter here this veil must be pierced, or, as in the Master Jesus’ experience, “rent in twain.” He left the third and entered into the fourth dimension of being, passing through the veil of the collective impure heart.  Waiting on the other side of the veil, in the fourth dimension, is the incarnate angel, the One standing in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks, one’s true identity.  

  By the light of this center in the Fourth Plane I am able to know with assurance who I am and what my purpose is on earth.  I know myself as an angel, an emissary of heaven’s light, who has come on earth to bring a special gift.  That gift is none other than my Self, a gift that I alone can bring.  Assurance in this is the gift of the Spirit of Purification.                                              

   Assurance that I am present as an angel of light is the experience of what Uranda calls “Fourth Plane Being,” attainment of which comes through meditation upon the realization that leads ultimately to the revelation of the “Master Self within.” It comes with a lot more than that, but it does require the mind and heart to give their focused response to the reality of the presence of the One I Am standing in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks and to eventually, but utterly yield all control and defer all power to this One.  In the end the outer human ego is dissolved as it yields up its right to exist as a separate and isolated entity.  It is only in losing one’s life in this way that one truly finds it. What follows this dissolution of the outer human ego is blessed assurance of one’s own angelic presence.  One is no longer two selves in a house divided, but only the one Self I Am standing in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks in the fourth plane of being.

   Fourth plane being is the place of connection between the three levels above it and the three below.  It is the level where the renewed sense of self comes through the fire of purification as the angel incarnate, who is the fire, emerges through the veil to take charge of his or her own incarnating capacities.  It is the level currently available and accessible to us. As my heart is purified in my own angelic fire of love, I begin to know God in myself and to see God in others.   I know myself and others as angels.

   The experience of emergence of angelic identity does not come, as I say, without some real in-depth work. Nor does it come without the outer shell of the false self cracking open and falling away at some point in what is often described as the “dark night of the soul,” in which the individual may struggle with “multiple personalities” and mental illusions. One may feel his/her very existence threatened and the familiar self actually dying, only to discover the revelation of a new state of being waiting in the wings to come forth.  Try as it has through many methods of so-called “spiritual enlightenment,” the false ego cannot ascend through the veil and enter the fourth plane of being.  It may think it has attained “nirvana” by rising to the very top of the third plane where serenity and peaceful bless are known in the “sea of glass like unto crystal,” but union with God is not known yet.  All that can occur here is the coming forth of the angel from the higher into the lower planes of being.  The false ego cannot enter into heaven. The true Ego, the Master Self, can come forth from out of heaven and enter into the earth. 

   When the angel comes forth, the human ego dissolves.  This happens inevitably for every one when the outer form passes away in what is called death.  It can happen as well in the cycles of transformation.  Real transformation from out of the experience of the old self and into that of the new and real Self invariably initiates the uncomfortable and sometimes painful experience of radical change and often major personal life crises of physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual dimensions.  Plato described this transition as moving from out of “the cave” of isolation, where life is observed as confused reflections on the walls of the cave, into the light of day where one is fully engaged as a liver of life rather than an observer only.

This passage of the soul from out of the dark cave and into the light of day is made much easier with the assistance of a “spiritual midwife,” or mentor.  One need not go it alone these days with the many spiritual guides and personal transformation facilitators available.

We have been moving through a transformation of human consciousness for several decades now, so the process has become more readily accessible, as well as more easily navigated. The time has also been shortened and the veil is more transparent and thin so that passage from “out of the cave” into the light of day takes less time than it used to.  In my next post I will explore this theme and share some professional insights of a spiritual midwife, Dr. Joan Borysenko, clinical psychologist and medical scientist, who has done much work in body-mind healing and spiritual transformation. The Role of the Thymus Gland Protecting the Body Temple

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you ?” (1 Cor. 3:16)

In the previous post, I detailed the functions of the thymus as an endocrine gland as well as a key player in what I have called the “immune alliance” of the body temple.  The following excerpt from SACRED ANATOMY continues to elaborate on this dual function with intricate details that describe a powerful and ruthless process, under the direction and control of the Spirit of Purification, whose primary role it is to protect the body temple. It is imperative, for the sake of the ongoing presence and expression of the Spirit of Life in and through our human capacities, focused in and operating through the Thyroid gland, that nothing is allowed to enter the Holy Place of the heart that would defile it or in any way diminish or hinder the governance of the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Love, focused in the Pituitary and Pineal glands respectively. 

It is my intention and desire in publishing these excerpts from my book to provide enlightenment about the miracle of life transpiring in our bodies, which are, individually and collectively, the temple of the Living God on Earth. In reading this excerpt, one may come to appreciate more fully the intricacies and complexities of interaction and communication between the various parts of our anatomy and physiology, and therein be inspired to maintain a personal atmosphere that is conducive and supportive to the work of the Spirit of Purification in one’s temple, so that Life may continue to manifest its radiance in the form of robust health and happiness.  As stated earlier, the key to protection is a balanced immune system.  

Protecting the Body Temple

   The Thymus is probably the most powerful and active of all the seven endocrine centers when it is functioning in a balanced manner, and balance is the key here to a healthy immunity.  In the healthy person there is just the right amount of immune response to repel infection or heal a wound, and just enough of the system involved to stop the response.  There is neither over-active response nor under-active response as just the right amount and types of white blood cells and immune factors are recruited to meet and resolve each challenging “invader.” An invader, as we have noted, is anything that is not “self” and therefore does not belong in the body-temple.  Over-active response results in auto-immunity and allergies, for example, while under-active response makes the body susceptible to infection.

   The key to a balanced immunity is the body’s ability to distinguish between what is self and what is non-self.  The job is usually easy as virtually every living organism and cell has its own unique set of “antigens” (surface molecules called “barcodes”) that identify them.  Early in life, through real encounters, the young immune system learns to recognize these barcodes if given the opportunity.  That opportunity is all too often missed in early childhood where antibiotics are used indiscriminately.  Should such use continue on a regular basis, the child will grow up to be an adult with an “immature immune system.” Immature immune systems abound today with the widespread use of antibiotics, not only within the human system but also in the animals grown for human consumption.  

   On the other hand, where herbs, such as Echinacea, and phytonutrients found in whole foods rich in Vitamins A and C, are used to support the young immune system, it will fare well in its encounters with antigens and pathogens of all kinds and develop properly into a strong fortress as the child matures into adulthood. The problem arises when too much dependency is placed upon antibiotic medication, both in childhood and in later years.  A weak and immature immune system is easily confused and overwhelmed by an onslaught of bacteria and viruses, many of them made stronger by adapting to antibiotics.  The job of distinguishing between self and non-self becomes more complex as viruses, such as HIV which causes Auto-Immune Disease Syndrome (AIDS), take on the surface protein molecules (barcodes) of the immune cells themselves, leading lymphocytes into a battle with themselves and thereby completely destroying the body’s ability to protect itself against opportunistic scavengers, such as bacteria, parasites, viruses, molds and fungus, many of which are produced by the body itself on site where their services are needed to clean up the debris of decay resulting from infection.  Infection is the body’s way of handling the pathology caused by invaders. 

   All this goes to say that our immune system, while powerful when balanced and educated through experience, is impotent when its delicate balance is disrupted and can even be left in a state of incoherence when not allowed to develop.  Therefore a lot of effort and energy is expended by the body balancing white blood cells and immune co-factors to provide exquisite protection and defense against harmful invaders.  Green, living foods are essential as a source of these co-factors. 

   The natural defenses of the immune system consist of an extremely elaborate and complex network of billions of lymphocytes, each one designed for a specific mission.  These cells communicate with one another like construction crew members erecting a tall building.  The result is a sensitive system of checks and balances that produces an immune response that is prompt, appropriate, fierce and  effective, as well as self-limiting.

   As we’ve noted, the thymus is joined by other organs keeping the body cells well fed, repaired and clean. Pockets of white blood cells (leukocytes, from the Greek leukos, meaning “white,” but also “light” or ”brilliant” or clear) can be found throughout the body-temple. The reticuloendothelial tissue of the tonsils, lymph nodes, spleen, and bone marrow are gathering sites for lymphocytes where cells grow and develop.  Though not commonly recognized for this role, the largest immunological organ of the body is the intestine with its “Peyer’s patches” cells embedded within its wall.  It is estimated that twenty-five percent of the intestines is involved in immunity with an additional seventy to eighty percent of all antibody-producing cells being located in our digestive system.  At any given time there are more than 100 trillion bacteria in our digestive system.  The cells that comprise the body are outnumbered ten-to-one by foreign organisms in and on our bodies.

   Leukocytes recognize foreign invaders and coordinate the natural defenses of the body.  There are three different types of leukocytes, or white blood cells: Granulocytes, monocytes and lymphocytes, each group having its own function.   They all originate in bone marrow and circulate from there by way of the bloodstream throughout the body.  About half of them come to rest in the Thymus, where they continue to differentiate and mature before returning to the bloodstream. Hence they are called T lympho-cytes, or “T cells.”  These are involved in the inflammatory process and in destroying foreign invaders such as cancer cells.   First to recognize the presence of foreign cells and infections, they recruit other cells and start up the immune response, releasing different classes of immune co-factors or bio-chemical signals that activate “B Cells” (blood-plasma cells), for example, to produce specific types of antibodies.  Each B Cell is a self-contained factory that manufactures one specific type of antibody (immunoglobulin).  These antibodies, large proteins, are programmed to identify invaders by their antigens (barcodes).

   There are the “Killer Cells” that kill cancer cells and those carrying viruses. “Macra-phages”  inform the white blood cells about the architecture of the invaders so that it can design the right antibody for the job, initiate immune response and scavenge dead organisms and cells.  “Phagocytes” gobble up infected cells like “PAC-Men.”   Eosinophils kill parasites and “Mast Cells” chemically trigger other cells into action and are involved in allergic reactions.  While many white blood cells recognize and react to specific antigens which starts a specific immune response against an individual class of invaders, other types of cells respond in a nonspecific manner, killing any and all invaders.

   Much more could be said about our powerful immune alliance and its many checks and balances that keep its response measured and timely.  It is fascinating, for instance, how the mother passes on her immune cells to her child, first by her blood stream and then by way of her colostrum-rich milk, emphasizing the tremendous value of supportive nutrition during pregnancy and breast-feeding after birth to give the infant all the support it needs in building its own immune alliance.  This is true for the animal kingdom in general wherein each species passes on its collective immunity and adaptations to the progeny through the egg or the milk.

   Much has been written on the subject of stress and the immune system, a system that actually “talks” to our nervous and hormonal systems and vice versa.  All these systems are integrated as one, as we have noted, and work together in governing our emotional as well as physical feelings.  Stress and fatigue depress the immune system while joy and laughter stimulate it.  Balance in all aspects of our lives is what this is all about.

   Perhaps we can learn something from our body’s ruthless intolerance of non-self invaders of the body-temple in developing a sense of diligence in purging from our hearts and minds feelings and thoughts that are not true to our authentic Self but which invade our personal space without notice and threaten to defile our holy place within.  The simple act of tagging them as not you, naming and acknowledging them as being there in your feelings but not identifying with them, allows them to be released into the purifying fires of the Spirit of Purification, where the energy maintaining them may be harvested and blended back into the circulation of Life in and through the body temple and the individual. In this is Life eternal.

One of my blog followers expresses poetically how his heart is like a furnace in this passionate response to my previous post: 

My heart is a cauldron; a fuming, bubbling lava lake in the core of the volcano. Any thought, word, deed that happens to drop into its reach is decomposed, dissolved from its structure into its original component chemistry, purified, and recycled into the system.

My heart is a bottomless lake; the specific weight of any structure of thought, and emotion, drags it down, slowly, under its own weight; ever lower, deeper. Until, crushed by the pressure of the deep, it fragments, floating back to surface in the unrecognizable guise of its pristine origins.

My heart is a drop of pure elixir; the cure for all ills. The most concentrated, refined, the purest essence of ecstasy. It is the stuff of tears of joy. The product of the cellular absorption of the wonderful way all fits into a multi-dimensional Rubik cube.

Our body temples are created to accommodate the incarnate beings we are –“angels from the realms of glory,” if you will. We are each a unique differentiation of the One Great Spirit, from whom we all spring forth through living flesh to appear on earth and co-create a heaven. The purpose of the incarnate angel is to accommodate the creative expression of the Spirit of God.  In my next post, “The Angelic Gland,” I will expand on this theme and show how our sacred energy anatomy facilitates this expression. The Thymus Gland and . . . The Spirit of Purification

I am the Spirit of Purification

   I protect the life and this temple from harm

I bring heaven and earth together as one

I give assurance to my world that all is well

With this post I begin a new series of consideration on our sacred energy anatomy. In this series I will share excerpts from the chapter in my book, SACRED ANATOMY, that focuses on the Thymus Gland and the cleansing and refining work of the Spirit of Purification. In this first post of the series, I present a brief description of the thymus gland’s role in the body temple, its function as an endocrine gland and its primary role managing and coordinating what I will call the body’s immune alliance.

There is much work to be done in the body preparing substance for ascension through the ceremonial processes of digestion, assimilation, absorption, purification, and elimination. This work of refinement begins in the mouth where gifts from the vegetable, mineral and animal kingdoms are received into the body, bearing vital nutrients and building blocks for the temple.

As we chew our food, salivary glands secrete enzymes to activate digestive chemistry in the stomach. A mixture of water, mucus, antibacterial substances, and digestive enzymes, saliva lubricates the mouth and the alimentary canal for the passage of food down through the esophagus and into the stomach. Here in the oral cavity amylase breaks down the starch in our food into simple sugars like glucose and maltose, obviating the importance of thorough mastication. In the stomach, pepsin is activated by hydrochloric acid (HCl) released from parietal cells in the stomach lining to break down meat and other protein substances.  Carried in along with these raw materials are numerous toxins that will have to be bound, rendered harmless and then eliminated from the body. This protective activity begins in the mouth and is operative throughout the journey of the food substances through the body’s digestive and elimination systems. 

Vibrationally this work actually begins in the kitchen where the food is prepared, hopefully by happy hands and hearts, and even before that in the garden and produce market.  Food has a way of absorbing the vibrations of those who handle it and passing them on to those who consume it. Coarse vibrations are disruptive to the flow of subtle energy in the body and can be refined by a blessing before meals. Refinement of the atoms themselves that comprise the food, bringing with them their memories of where they’ve been, is carried out at higher levels yet, as we have already seen in our meditation on the Pineal Body and will explore in greater depth in the chapter on the Gonads.

The Thymus gland—a large, flat grayish structure located just behind the sternum (breastbone) and in front of the heart, like a shield protecting this vital organ—plays a key role in this process of the distribution of nutrients and the elimination of toxins.  Here is the heart of what is referred to as the “immune system,” situated at about the level of the paps on a man’s chest. 

In the vibratory context and order of the frequencies in the light spectrum, it would radiate a wavelength of yellow-gold and a frequency correlating with  the musical pitch C natural, the third harmonic in the F Major triad: F,A,C, [the significance of which I explore in my book Attunement With Sacred Sound.]

John the Beloved Disciple, in his Book of Revelation in the Bible, described the One in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks as being “…girt about the paps with a golden girdle.” This area would include the entire upper thorax contained within the rib cage—the lungs, the heart, the thymus and spleen, and the solar plexus.  This entire section of the anatomy is taken up with activities relating to protection, circulation, purification, and ascension.  The golden glow of love fills this area with substance so that these activities are carried out as gently and thoroughly as possible.

   The Thymus accomplishes its tasks largely by way of the lymphatic system. The function of the lymphatic system is to pick up the excess fluid and metabolic waste between the cells and tissues, destroy what does not belong in the body and put it all back into circulation through the subclavian artery (just below the left clavicle, from whence it derives its name).  Much like a cleanup crew on a construction site, lymph brings building blocks of nutrients to the cells and distributes lymphocytes (white blood cells) throughout the body to destroy pathogens as it sweeps up and carries away the metabolic waste. There are some 75 million on these lymphocytes at work among the approximately 75 trillion cells in the body temple.   Having no pump to move it, as does the bloodstream, lymphatic fluid depends on the movement of muscles for its circulation.  Exercise, especially brisk walking and rebounding, as well as massage, helps to move this fluid around throughout the body.                          

An Immune Alliance

   The Thymus is the control center for the electromagnetic energy of the body.  It is with this energy that the body maintains its integrity and protective hedge. Although we speak of an “immune system,” the reality is that the body does not have an immune system in as much as it is an immune system in its functional totality, considering the vast distribution of lymphocytes throughout the body temple.  Systems such as the skeletal, respiratory, reproductive, endocrine, central nervous system, and others are complete functioning systems with a clear set of organs and responses.  Our immune system may best be described as an immune alliance between various systems and organs which, when signaled and coordinated by the brain, give an immune response to the presence of any and all non-self elements and associated dis-ease factors that are not a natural part of the internal landscape of the body.

   This immune alliance is composed of the thymus gland, which develops the immature lymphocytes; the spleen which produces antibodies and which includes the lymphatic and blood circulatory systems; the long bones of the skeletal system which house bone-marrow that gives birth to leukocytes (white blood cells). Then there are the organs of the digestive system: the stomach and pancreas, which make Hydrochloric acid and enzymes that destroy ingested parasites and carcinogens, the intestinal flora which destroy pathogenic microbes and manufacture B12, and the liver which detoxifies the blood and produces enzymes that break down dead tissue cells and repair those that are damaged.  So when I speak of the “immune system,” it is to this alliance that I am referring and not to some specific system in the body. 

    We also commonly and erroneously speak of “fortifying” and “stimulating” the immune system.  The reality is that we cannot enhance our immunity without enhancing the overall health of the whole person in complete immunity to the various and sundry elements of disease.  With the above in mind, it becomes clear that a multifaceted approach must be made to nourish and strengthen the whole man, which includes the diverse aspects of the body’s major immune players along with the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of the whole person. Today we understand that building our immunity is as much a spiritual function as it is a physical one. The health of the immune system is actually the health of the whole person. Detoxification is always the more immediate priority in this process, after which fortification and maintenance come into play as more long-term functions in maintaining immunity.

   It has been said by many who work in this field of health care that the simple and easy act of throwing your shoulders back and putting a smile on your face does much to empower your immune system, along with any nutritional supplement you might also be taking. This speaks to the invisible aspect of our immunity: our personal atmosphere. The atmosphere around a person plays at least an equal role, if not greater, in the protection of the body temple as do the various players of the immune alliance inside the body.  It attracts both trouble or happiness depending on the quality of its vibrancy, and that depends largely on what is going on in a person’s mind and heart in the way of thought patterns and harbored feelings.  So we see that our so-called “immune system” is comprised of a whole lot more than meets our eyes and each part of that whole has its unique role to play, physically, mentally, emotionally, as well as spiritually. 

   The physical and chemical role of the Thymus in this immune alliance is the production of antibodies.  More specifically, it seeds the lymphatic tissue, which then produces the antibodies.  When you are exposed to bacteria, your thymus gland should immediately seed the lymphatic tissue to start the production of antibodies.  It takes seven days to completely produce enough antibodies to destroy the bacteria. This is why organ transplant patients only live seven days unless something is done to prevent the formation of antibodies.  The foreign protein in the donor’s organ does not fit the chromosome pattern of the recipient’s body.  When a foreign protein enters your system, it is treated just like harmful bacteria.  The thymus gland seeds the lymphatic tissue to produce antibodies, which then destroy the protein.  This defines pretty much the primary function of the Thymus gland as a key player in the immune system of the body.

The Thymus is probably the most powerful and active of all the seven endocrine centers when it is functioning in a balanced manner, and balance is the key here to a healthy immunity. . . .

The Thyroid’s Role in the Spoken Word

“The Christ Love that shines through thee is like unto the brightness of the sun, and all things in thy body-self which are not rooted in thy nature and watered with thy Truth shall quickly be disintegrated by the brightness of thy Presence, for thou art the I AM of thy body-self.” —Uranda

Continuing in the series “The Spiritual Significance of the Thyroid Gland,” this excerpt from SACRED ANATOMY speaks to the role this sacred energy center plays in our vocal expression. This is the control and regulating center for the Spirit of Life. Here heart and mind meet to provide animation for the realization and manifestation of ideas conceived in the mind by the Spirit of Truth working through the Pituitary gland and in partnership with the Spirit of Love radiantly focused in the Pineal. Illumination is the radiant gift of the Spirit of Life

The Creative Word Organizes  

John of Revelation writes about this One’s voice as though it were the voice of a collective rather than that of an individual: “And his voice as the sound of many waters”—conveying the creative word into the field of creation.  Words that uplift are like water flowing forth from a fountain and down a river bringing fresh water to the earth and all living things.  That river is the River of Life, and the creative word gives life to our bodies and to our worlds, just as the destructive word destroys life in our bodies creating nothing but voids in them and in our worlds.

The voice box, situated by design between these two lobes of the thyroid, sets the tone that carries the Word articulated and released into our creative field.  The words that come out of our mouths create to the extent they are spoken with feeling and are thus charged with spirit, whatever spirit is moving in the heart.  If they are spoken without feeling and without spirit, they are then of little consequence as far as creation is concerned.  Whatever the nature of the spirit with which they are charged, so will be the nature of the creation.  Just as love and truth bring forth life in the body, so does love for the truth bring forth words that increase life in our worlds.  By the same token, words charged with ill spirits bring forth illness and discord.

Words of life flow out from a person who loves the truth and has a passion for the real and the genuine in living.   Such words flow like many waters clarifying issues and dissolving patterns of resistance in us when we hear them.  Such words create life whereunto they are sent.

There are many such people on Earth today and when I hear them speak, or read their writings, it’s like cool, clear water being poured out over hot and confusing issues in the forefront of human consciousness today,  clarifying understanding in such a refreshing way.  My heart pours out currents of love and appreciation toward them, as well as verbal and written response when appropriate that lets them know they are heard, cherished and protected in my heart.  They are about the business of creating a new world.  Their words find their mark in the hearts of people where response gives rise to deep resonance.  In turn, deep resonance sets up changes in the molecular patterns of physical substance.  New configurations based on tones that are harmonious and resonant with life appear in flesh.  Thus are our bodies and our worlds transformed and created new by the Spirit of Life conveyed by the spoken word.

This speaking of the creative word and response to it generates the connecting substance that joins us all together in true community, as it provides the returning cycle that is essential to the effectiveness of the radiation of love into the world through the spoken and written word.  It also establishes, to the extent that we follow our heart’s response, the patterns of spiritual governance through harmonic focalization.  Based solely on the principle of resonance, we are irresistibly drawn to those who focus specific qualities of Spirit with which we naturally resonate.  We draw others to ourselves in the exact same manner.  This is the essence of the saying, “Not by might or by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”  In this government no man lords it over another but only the Spirit of God is Lord over all in heaven and on earth.  Spirit, not form, provides the focalization.  Government by Spirit is organic and works through organisms.  Government by form is synthetic and works through organizations.

The Spirit of Life charges our words that they may carry the Tone which creates all things new.   From here the current of the Word goes forth from out of the mouth of God on Earth, which we each and altogether are, to accomplish that whereunto it is sent.  John wrote: . . . and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword.”  In lesson forty-four of “Steps to Mastership,” Uranda, with all the assurance of his own mastery, writes: 

Out of thy mouth now goes the sharp “two edged sword” of Truth, even as it goes forth from the mouth of our great Master, dividing asunder the “bone” of unresponsiveness, that it may be separated from the “marrow” of Life.  Thus it is that the Truth which thou art now sending forth into thy body-self is causing thy body-self to be free from all the limitations of the flesh, even as thou art now free to express fully the glorious liberties of the Children of God.  As soon as thy body-self is convinced that it is only through thy Truth that it can be FREE, it will respond to thee and enter into thy Life through the transforming power of the Christ Love that is in thee.

The Christ Love that shines through thee is like unto the brightness of the sun, and all things in thy body-self which are not rooted in thy nature and watered with thy Truth shall quickly be disintegrated by the brightness of thy Presence, for thou art the I AM of thy body-self.

The first impression of this image might be one of the sword representing cutting words of rebuke, which words of truth do indeed provide.  That rebuke is given only by the angel to his or her own human capacities.   It is not to be used to set others straight or to rebuke them.

Another meaning, perhaps more subtle,  is contained in the design of the two-edged sword, which cuts both ways if the one who is applying words of truth and rebuke is not himself being true to his own words, “walking his talk” as it is put.  If one takes a two-edged sword, for example, by the blade in order to cut something into pieces, he is likely to cut his own hand as well.  But if he takes the sword by the handle and gently but consistently applies pressure while he moves the blade back and forth, he can easily and safely cut through the bonds that hold one captive, literally or figuratively, without cutting either himself or the one or thing being freed. With words backed by the authority of experience, one can easily cut through entangling issues to the kernel of truth behind them and find healing and freeing resolutions based in love.

One who is living the words he speaks is careful not to impose, for one thing, and is gentle but sure in the way he speaks and words things. He seeks to clarify issues rather than confuse them with words lacking the knowledge of experience.  His words shine light on the path rather than into the eyes of those who would walk the path with him.  Words of truth offer freedom from confusing and binding concepts and beliefs.  It is not our beliefs about the truth but our experience of truth that makes us free— initially from our beliefs about it.  Words are creative vessels and therefore sacred. Words can also be used to divide and destroy and are thereby defiled and thwarted from their original meaning and purpose, often rendered useless unless they can be cleaned up and reclaimed for sacred purpose.

The Thyroid Gland . . . and the Spirit of Life

“I am the Spirit of Life. I bring radiance to my world. I am born anew in each moment. For I am birthless, deathless and eternally the same.  I am the life of my world”

Greetings on this last weekend of Summer as the Autumn Equinox approaches to usher in shorter days here in the sunny South. Autumn is my favorite season of the year, and we’ve already prepared soil for planting sweet peas and other Winter crops in our Fall garden. This is the time of year when the ebb of Life’s flow of subtle energy causes the leaves of the trees to turn brilliant colors before falling to the ground to nourish the good brown earth. And with that poetic intro, I will initiate a new series of posts in this Healing Tones blog.

In this series, I will share excerpts from SACRED ANATOMY in which I consider the Thyroid gland’s hormonal functions as well as its spiritual role and significance. My hope in sharing these meditations is that my readers will glean from them a deeper sense of appreciation for our amazing human capacities and the Life that breathes through them.  Considering the existential crisis at hand on planet Earth, this is a good time to be thinking about the gift of life and how crucial it is that we appreciate and nurture it as such. Life is born anew in each moment, fathered by the Spirit of Love and given birth by the Spirit of the Womb (the Spirit of Truth). These are our spiritual Godparents. In the Spirit of Love, the Spirit of Truth, and the Spirit of Life, we are truly brothers and sisters all. The Thyroid gland provides the vibrational terrain through which the Spirit of Life works its radiant magic upon the cells of the body, energizing them with vibrancy.  Resembling a butterfly, it is comprised of two lobes situated on either side of the larynx, or voice box, with four to eight small brownish-red parathyroid glands embedded in the tissues on its back side. 

It seems accurate to say that this vital energy center plays a key role in setting the tone for the voice when we speak or sing.  If we think of sound as a carrier wave for spirit, spoken words convey the creative messages of spirit that shape and color our worlds according to their vibratory essences.  In Genesis, for instance, we have the phrase “and God said….”  Sound was the very first force created by the Spirit of God moving upon the “face of waters.”  The movement of the Spirit of God upon the face of the waters produces a pulse.  That pulse becomes a series of beats, which then become a wave, which become the Tone that creates light, out of which all things are made and spring forth into living, breathing forms. 

So is it with our own creative processes.  A creative pulse at the core of our hearts becomes a wave of thought that carries a vibrational tone articulated by words which convey information that organizes and arranges the matter that creates and shapes our worlds.  

     In numerology the number 5 is the symbol of life. Emerald green, the fifth and dominant color in the light spectrum, correlates with the vibrational frequency of the Thyroid.  The color green represents life and the Thyroid is the fifth endocrine gland counting from the bottom up. 

    The musical pitch of green is C sharp.  In relationship to the Golden Mean of the Divine Proportion, which is .618, C sharp is the fifth pitch in the chromatic scale of thirteen notes. [13, I am told, is the Divine Feminine]. Five is derived at by multiplying the number 13 by .618 and then subtracting that product, which is 8, from 13, giving you 5, the smaller half of the Divine Proportion. The figure 8 represents infinity, the nature of life eternal. . . .  All this to say the Thyroid is located at the Golden Mean, the Divine midway point of the seven endocrine glands. It is where heaven and earth come together, where the infinite realm of spirit divine touches into the finite realm of the human form.  Life is the Divine Proportion brought forth by the union of Love and Truth.

   Green was also the dominant color that John reportedly saw radiating from the One who sat on the throne set in heaven. It is the color of the expression of Mother Nature’s vast array of foliage.  Green is generally thought of as the “color of money,” which symbolizes the currency of life we share with one another.  As we look around us at the verdant array of Nature, we behold the chief characteristic of Life, which is growth and prolific expansion of forms to manifest life in all its glory and diversity.  Procreation of forms to express itself is a creative compulsion of Life.  

   This is the Fifth Level of world being, the level of manifestation between heaven and earth in the temple where life begins to infuse flesh with its own radiance. Here is the very breath of God, the ebb and flow of which can actually be felt as one places one’s hands on either side of the head about two inches away from each temple while breathing rhythmically just before entering a period of meditation.  While sharing Attunement with another, my hands frequently move in and out as though moved by the inhaling and exhaling of the Breath of Life as I hold them over the temples of the recipient.      

The hormonal secretions of the Thyroid and their functions are varied and involve stimulating hormones (TSH) produced in the Pituitary gland. From the Pituitary, the Thyroid receives thyrotrophin, a hormone precursor that enables the production of thyroid hormonal secretions, such as thyroxine and calcitonin.  Thyroxine affects the growth rate and metabolism of all the body cells.  Calcitonin assists the parathyroid hormones and Vitamin D in lowering blood-calcium levels by enhancing cellular uptake, kidney function, and bone formation.  The mineral iodine plays a functional role as well in many organic and glandular processes regulated by the Thyroid gland, including the metabolism of calcium, the rate and rhythm of the heart beat, and the uptake of water by the kidneys, just to name a few well-known functions regulated by the Thyroid. 

   The liver plays an important role here as well.   The Thyroid gland makes the T3 hormone out of thyronine—the inactive hormone of the Thyroid stored in the liver—at a proportion of twenty percent, and thyroxine, T4—the active hormone of the Thyroid—at the proportion of eighty percent.  The storage form is converted into an active form in the liver, so it is important that the liver be functioning up to par for optimal thyroid hormone production and action in the body-tissues. 

   Life charges the cells of the body with vibrancy: the bones to be strong with calcium; the heart muscles to pump blood rhythmically through the body; the brain for clear and calm thinking; the kidneys to pick up excess fluids and cleanse the blood stream of toxic waste, such as uric acid and other impurities and toxins.  Besides regulating metabolism and growth, thyroxine increases oxidation, promotes protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism for energy, and influences the regulation of body temperature.  In a word, the Thyroid hormones bring radiance to the body temple.  —(SACRED ANATOMY)

The Spirit of Life nourishes the thyroid gland as it flows, much like a river, through this gateway of sacred energy into the body . . . and through the body to find expression in our thoughts, words, and creative activities. My next post will expand further on the spiritual significance of the thyroid gland.

“The Chalice of Collective Sovereignty”— Restoring Camelot

But to me it seems that there is a very profound reason why there are no great leaders anymore. It is because they are no longer needed. The message is clear. You no longer want to be led from the outside. Every man must be his own leader. He now knows enough not to follow other people. He must follow the light that’s within himself, and through this light he will create a new community. You see, wherever I go in the world, this to me is a general trend. I am aware of the fact that there are already people in existence today—take us—who really belong to a community which does not yet exist. That is, we are the bridge between the community we’ve left and the community which doesn’t exist yet. —(Laurens Van De Post, A Walk with a White Bushman,” 1986)

My Chorale PicDemocracy, as we profess to practice it here in America, is not working. Leadership from above-down is being rejected globally as people are awakening to their own inner spirit guidance. The paradigm of leadership has shifted from top-down governance to governance from within the individual, and the grassroots community.

In truth, we do not have a democracy here in America. Democracy is grassroots government: “Of the people, by the people and for the people.” Our government leaders are elected to serve “we the people.” They are our employees not our bosses, yet as a whole they do not serve the interests of the people but are beholden to their campaign donors and lobbyists. So, in reality, we do not have a true democracy here is America. What we do have in Washington, and on Wall Street, is a cartel of corporations enabled by an aggressively lobbied congress and empowered by an ambivalent, dictatorial, narcissistic president. It’s a legal entity called “Corporate America,” and its enterprises are raking in massive profits on the backs of “we the consumers.” A paradigm shift is due and in the offing.

That shift will not come, however, without trade-offs and radical change.  One trade-off is the relinquishing of our addiction to oil and to all the “stuff” produced by Corporate America.  Liberty Mutual Insurance has a sensible slogan: “Only pay for what you need.” We do need clean energy . . . and we could do without all the “stuff” we buy but don’t really need. We don’t really need wars, nor space travel.  We do need to take care of our own here at home.

Another trade-off is the obvious need to let go of our old-school ways of being told what we can and cannot do.  In other words, the safety net that lets us feel secure within the boundaries of “the law”– a law that has lost its sanctity as those in high places skirt around it, largely with impunity. The fact that the U.S. Supreme Court holds the position that a sitting president cannot be indicted on criminal charges speaks to the provision in our government for a dictatorship.

So, letting go of the way we’ve felt “safe” within a law-based governance is a challenge in light of the fact that not everyone has yet awakened to their inner spirit guidance. While there is wisdom in not burning all our bridges just yet, there is greater wisdom in building new bridges to the future, bridges that are vibrationally supported by the shift in cosmic energy toward a new paradigm of leadership.  Because, as the new paradigm emerges, as it will, the old paradigm will continue to fail us, eventually collapsing altogether, leaving us to our own devices in a state of anarchy, if only for a transitional period.  So, we are hesitant to let go of “the devil we know” in lieu of the one we don’t — and rebellion is not the answer. 

Where cities like Paris, France, and Hong Kong, China are in a state of turmoil as their citizens march in the streets in violent protests against injustice and corrupt leadership, only death and destruction will ensue.

The world has had Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi who have set the tone and the precedent for real change through peaceful non-compliance and non-violent resistance.  Legendary Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh led the movement of non-violent resistance in Vietnam until he was exiled. He taught compassion as the only way to end terrorism.  These men arose from out of the grassroots of the societies they sought to rescue from the murderous hands of bigots and tyrants.

This kind of leadership can be seen emerging throughout the global community today.  This is what author Diana Durham speaks to in her book The Return of King Arthur, from which I have borrowed these excerpts for inclusion in Sacred Anatomy

Speaking of her own personal transformation within the container of an intentional spiritual community that went through a transformation itself in the wake of the passing of its spiritual God-parent and leader, Diana writes:

THE CHALICE OF COLLECTIVE SOVEREIGNTY

There is a great fear of losing the sword—a fear of losing the tradition and forms that have embodied the truth for us, and a desire to try to preserve them in some way—to disobey Arthur’s command.  Twice Sir Bedivere, that most loyal and trusted knight, tries to hide Excalibur before finally obeying Arthur and throwing the sword into the lake.  After all, if we don’t preserve the sword, we might lose everything . . . .

Very often this is the way. The injection of spiritual reality brought by the great avatar, like Jesus or Buddha, one who is able to pull the sword of power, of spiritual authority, back out of the stone of fixed belief and tradition and wield it as a living reality, is turned after their death into a religion, a series of beliefs, a tradition.  And people warm themselves on the little spark that still glows in the embers of that tradition, but they don’t inherit the mantle of spiritual radiance. They have not become entrained into the understanding of what it really means to “Worship God”; they have not completed the quest . . . .

. . . . Thanks to Guinevere and Morgana (the heart’s wisdom), Excalibur is not destined to become a sacred relic of past glory “stored in some treasure-house of mighty kings.” The heart’s instinctual knowing of what is right has overridden the fears and the structures of the mind, thus ensuring that Arthur’s true legacy—the legacy of potency, of truth, as represented by his sword— has become a living possibility available within the subconscious mind for us all to draw on.  It has not fossilized into a tradition for the elite to fight over—whether a political elite or a priestly elite; it is beyond the reach of corruption, and can only be accessed by the innocent and the true. Thanks to the quest for the Grail, thanks to the heart’s compulsion to take on one’s individual path and authority, the Round Table could become what it was a promise of.  Our network could be transmuted from a community into a new and potent consciousness of oneness.

This is why no matter which thread of the plot we retrace to uncover the cause of Camelot’s downfall, we find ourselves staring into the face of the feminine, whether it be the actions of Guinevere and Morgana or the quest for the Grail itself.  Only the heart’s wisdom knows how to take us from symbol to reality and carries the passion and assurance that will allow the “old order” to change and find renewal.

So we can begin to approach the meaning of the fulfillment of the Grail quest from a number of different—but related—angles. First of all, the finding of the Grail . . . means that the sense of personal separation from inner source—which I have also called the Grail King energy, love, or God—is healed.  Once this happens, our dependency on a King Arthur mentor figure ceases, and we begin to live our lives from a direct sense of what fits, of what is ours to do.  We can trust the compulsion of our heart because the heart realm is now operating as a direct “transmitter” of our own inner being and purpose.  In this way, the heart realm is the place of connection, or oneness, with God or spiritual source, and once that consciousness of union with source is a grounded reality within us—once the ego that thinks of itself as the center of the universe is no longer dominant—then there is a basis for connecting deeply with others. The heart realm becomes the means of connecting with others, with one’s “neighbor.” Therefore, we also begin to share a sense of oneness with one another, and a sense of being—hologram-like—parts of a whole that also contain in miniature the design of the whole.

The sense of oneness with others, combined with the ability to discern direction for ourselves, enables the other meaning of the Grail to emerge, which is the aspect of collective leadership: the circle of many individuals forming one body.

Collective leadership is not possible while we are still dependent on a mentor figure both for our own sense of spiritual alignment and for a sense of direction.  Nor is it possible unless there is a sense of oneness to bind us together—as well as the ability to discern for ourselves (as opposed to being subject to “peer pressure”) what our actions need to be.

We remember that the individual sword—or sense of authority—is earned by going on a quest for the Grail.  Perceval is given the sword on his first visit to the Grail Castle.  The return of Arthur in a form of the return of many individuals wielding their individual swords—in other words, the condition of collective leadership—cannot come about until the Grail is found and this collective consciousness is formed . . . .(pp. 203-206)

The Grail is found in the legends, and finding the Grail symbolizes not only the individual experience of openhearted connection to spiritual source in oneself but also the emergence of the possibility of collective leadership.  When Arthur throws that sword into the lake, a woman’s hand reaches up to take it. A new opportunity has been fertilized: a new union between masculine and feminine, and the emergence of an era of collective sovereignty. When we talk about the rise of the feminine we are describing a crucial aspect of this new era. Obviously this new possibility has been emerging for some time in the form of the suffragettes and the women’s movement.  Closely allied with the struggle for equal rights for women was the civil rights movement in the United States. Leadership has been rising up from the grassroots, bringing immense changes and balancing out some of the injustices of society’s myopic structures. Collective leadership implies both the roundness of the chalice cup—without hierarchy, containing all—the feminine; and the absoluteness of the sword, the element of individual responsibility required for true leadership: the masculine. (pp. 6-7)

   What Durham is describing here is a renewal process of the Pituitary Gland that appears to be underway, both within individuals and the collective body of Man.  As masculine/feminine energies find a way to work in harmony and balance within us as two in agreement in the Spirit of Love, individually and collectively, the Spirit of the Womb can then work its hormonal and alchemical magic of renewal on the planet. Camelot can then be restored where men and women partner together to provide a home for God on Earth.

The Pituitary’s Role in Building Community

 “To love another person is to see the face of God”

This past Labor Day weekend, Bonnie and I watched PBS’s presentation of Les Miserables in concert format and enjoyed every minute of this powerful musical. Jean Valjean’s (Alfie Boe) last words before dying still resonate in my heart: “To love another person is to see the face of God.” Wow! My eyes teared up as he sang this line, as they did throughout the story.  I was moved by the music and the songs, especially when Fontaine (Lea Salonga) poured her heart out in “I Dreamed a Dream,” and Alfie Boe, with his rich baritone voice, sang “Bring Him Home.” But then, I’m a softy and tear up easily when sweet and caring words are spoken and acts of extraordinary generosity are portrayed in movies. Some scenes simply touch a tender spot in my heart of longing for life in our world to be as beautiful and full of simple acts of kindness and appreciation as portrayed in movies such as this. 

I am blessed to have someone close to love and to share life with. It’s a privilege I do not take for granted—although it is granted. Bonnie and I both acknowledge that we are truly a gift from Life to one another, a gift for whom I am deeply thankful, especially as we age together in a high-tech world that seems to be leaving us behind, and dear friends and family members are departing.

We have been gifted by Life in the many friends we’ve come to know over the years. I marvel at times at how we are naturally, though magically, drawn together by Spirit, occasioned by common interests and sheer resonance at times, and remain connected in spirit, though miles and oceans apart. We are clearly part of a global spiritual community that abides and serves the One in the larger Body of Man at a level clearly above the physical, yet includes the physical.

We are drawn together by Love, just as surely as the cells of our bodies are drawn together by Love and arranged by perfect design to function together in a controlled and purposeful manner as a true community—thanks to our wonderful Pituitary gland and the Spirit of Truth focused here— and the Spirit of Love focused in the Pineal gland . . . and the Spirit of Life focused in and by the Thyroid gland (which I will write about shortly) . . . and all of the other glands of our endocrine system that provide their unique focus for Life in the body.  The word focus is the operative word here for the theme of this post, in which I am happy to share this except from my book SACRED ANATOMY. 

A Collective Body

   Whether we are aware of it or not, our function on Earth greatly impacts the balance of creation throughout the solar entity, just as the function of the Pituitary determines the balance of energy and chemistry in our bodies.  How we use this sacred seal is crucial to the outworking of creative cycles throughout the body, as well as our relationship with others in our worlds.  It is designed to honor and give focus for the Spirit of Truth.  We use this seal correctly when our passion is for the truth of love in our momentary living. 

   It is the prayer of many who have vision, and who offer themselves as spiritual mentors these days, that we all become conscious of our true identity as angelic beings and aware of our mission and heavenly purpose so that we might play our parts with genuine authority in our collective role of wise stewardship, exercising loving dominion over the balance of Creation on this planet.  A global awakening to this reality in the collective has occurred over the past few decades.  What is being called for today, I feel, is a certain meekness of mind, a willingness born of true humility to be teachable and to explore together what is required of us during these historic and crucial days of completion and new beginnings as we move into the new millennium.  When the mind is meek and teachable, still and open to explore new possibilities, the heart may feel free to open up and start trusting its perceptions and, more importantly, sharing its perspectives and understanding. It is with the heart’s discernment that we feel our way through the darkness in this world.  It is with her understanding and perspectives, based on spirit rather than structure, that we will forge a path to the “world waiting to be born” Scott Peck envisioned and wrote about. This is what true vision is.

    It has been said, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” It also follows that where there is vision the people flourish. It is important, then, that those with vision, those who know and know that they know, by virtue of their own living the truth of love, come forward to shed light into the darkness of human misunderstanding and confusion.  This is happening on a grander scale now than ever before.  Everywhere I turn I see individuals living and speaking their truth with authority and assurance, even if not with pristine clarity as yet. There is much more to come in the way of purity of heart and clarity of understanding. There’s no need to put this process on hold, however, until the heart is fully purified.  As each one puts his and her piece of truth into the collective container of consciousness, the picture continues to clarify for all.  It is the shining of one’s light that the capacity for shining is transformed and clarified, as well as grows.     

   To use a biblical metaphor, one does not light a candle and place it under a bushel but in a place where it can be seen by men and where it will light up the entire room.  We all have a part to play and everyone’s part, without exception, is essential to the whole picture and to the inevitable outcome of the cycles of change presently underway on Earth.  No one will remain untouched or unchanged by these re-creative cycles that are bringing us all together as One Body for the One Spirit we all love and seek to serve more fully. 

   In our love for the One and for one another, the true design of spiritual governance through a pattern of harmonic focalization would naturally begin to be unveiled and fleshed out on a basis that is acceptable to all who keep their I single in the Spirit whose design it is.  That Spirit is not an elusive, inaccessible entity, but rather is closer than breath.  It differentiates itself through each one of us, as it does in the natural world around us, in focalized patterns.  Life is an organizing force that brings order and harmony out of chaos and confusion. The Universe attests to its creative genius.

   We each focus a unique aspect and frequency of Spirit. We are drawn toward—and we draw to ourselves—those with whom we naturally resonate in Spirit at the core of our hearts. This is what I mean by harmonic focalization. To use a musical metaphor, some of us sing melodies in the life of a community and others of us sing harmonies around them. Those of us who usually sing harmonies sometimes find ourselves singing melodies with others, who perhaps usually sing melodies, gravitating toward us to harmonize—or coordinate—their parts with us. This is the organism rather than the organization model.  It’s the way things work in the Universe to achieve anything genuine and organic. 

   Nothing could be achieved in the physiology of the human body but anarchy and pandemonium without the focus of the Spirit of Love in the Pineal Body and the nurturing coordination of the Spirit of the Womb in the Pituitary gland. So is it with the collective body of humanity. Where Spirit is focalized and its differentiations coordinated in a pattern of design and control, the collective body temple comes together as a unified expression of divine love to provide a Home for God on Earth.  This, I believe, is the healing the Body of God on Earth is in dire need of today, a process that appears to be underway. 

   I see a collective Body Temple rising in our midst today composed of  incarnate beings of light the world around, men and women who have remembered who they are and why they are here, who give their utmost care and attention to the sacred in everyday life.  All are invited to play a role in this temple, be it large or small.  The Earth itself is being recognized once again for the Sacred Temple it provides for the continual praise and worship of the Creator in this Solar Entity, this Cathedral of the living God.

   Speaking of individuals emerging who carry a current of love for truth in their writings, my friend and poet Diana Durham’s book The Return of King Arthur, which is written around the theme of the quest for the Holy Grail, a myth full of symbolism that points to the reality of human experience, past, present and future, may well be the single most important book at the dawn of the New Millennium, certainly among the top ten. The author names, like no other author I have read to date, where we have been and how we have been wounded, where we are now and where we are headed—and naming the wound is the first step toward healing.  Her chapter eleven, “The Chalice of Collective Sovereignty,” is a must-read for every awakened human being on the planet at this time of global transformation and transition out of the old and into the New Era. I simply cannot resist sharing just a few of the many morsels of her wisdom here in this consideration of the collective body, and as a fitting closing to our meditation on the roles the Pituitary Gland and Spirit of the Womb play in our body temples. –(from SACRED ANATOMY)

The Pituitary’s Partnership Role in the Creative Process

When you make the two into one. . .and thus make the male and the female the same, so that the male isn’t male and the female isn’t female. . .then you will enter the Kingdom. —(Jesus, The Gospel of Thomas)

We have created a world of competing opposites within a Unified Field of Universal Oneness. Little wonder our way of life isn’t working toward the good of all, including the planet. We have isolated ourselves from God and from one another with our religions, our social classes and our political camps. We treat the wilderness as a separate world to conquer and our natural habitat as a resource to be ravaged and raped to support our consumptive lifestyle.

Even in my writings, I separate things that are inseparable. For example, masculine and feminine, men and women, God and Man, Creator and creation. In the Unified Field of Universal Oneness, men and women are united in Man. Creator and creation are united in God. As Walter Russell went to extreme pains to demonstrate throughout his life and his exhaustive writings, there is only God. God is all there is in his “Creating Universe,” as his graphic here portrays. 

Contained in this graphic is the inhaling and exhaling of creative masculine/feminine energy, radiation/response, positive/negative, God/Creation.  As the song goes, “You can’t have one without the other.” Only there is no “other,” just the One.

Thus, today we have men being more feminine and women being more masculine. We know innately that we belong together. That we are One Man with equal masculine and feminine functions — as our Pituitary gland reminds us by its physical anatomy and functional physiology.  One lobe doesn’t lord it over the other. They work together as one gland toward the good of the whole body, each lobe playing its unique role and not trying to be like, or better than, the other. There is no competition between our body parts. Only cooperation and co-creation.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

     Another name for God is the Creative Process, a process by which the things of God in the invisible realm of spirit are conceived, nurtured and given birth in the visible realm of form. That process moves through five stages: positive radiation of the creative power of love (the masculine), negative response and openness of the womb toward the flow of radiation (the feminine), attraction and movement toward the Source of the radiation (romance), inexorable union with Source (intimacy) and, finally, release of the positive, unified radiation of the creative power of love through the forms so drawn together (radiant release of the seed, both vibrational and genetic, for the next and ongoing creative cycle. 

   This process clearly plays itself out in our body temples in the interaction between the endocrine glands.  Love radiates continually through the Pineal. The radiation of Love engenders response in the Pituitary, which begins immediately to differentiate the positive current of Love and send it forth into the body by way of stimulating hormone precursors which initiate hormonal activities in the other five endocrine glands; first in the Thyroid which immediately transforms it into life for the body cells. The response of these hormonal crystals to the currents of love enlighten them as they absorb the currents and send forth their differentiated light emanations into the body tissues.

   Thus is a pattern of attraction established throughout the body cells as the atoms and molecules forming them, caught up in the ascending current of love response, are drawn into union with love and with one another. The result is a vibrant human being expressing a Unified Field of radiation toward which elements from the natural world in turn begin to give their response in support and renewal of the body temple. It is truly a magical and magnificent symphonic movement orchestrated by the Creative Process.

   This process also describes what is sometimes referred to as the “sex principle,” a principle which I believe underlies the deeply suppressed longing in human beings for the erotic in human sexuality: the passionate embrace of the Beloved in the ritual space of sacred sex. The branches, bowls, knobs and flowers, along with the other six candle holders, depicted here are coming out of the One standing in the midst with “his shaft,” his one golden candlestick, in the fourth plane of being.  It all came out of “him.”  It was all fashioned as one piece of hammered gold. . . .   

The Womb of All Life 

   Cyanogen-blue is the sixth color or the rainbow and, therefore, the wavelength of light that I have assigned to the Pituitary.  It correlates with the musical pitch E flat. Vitamin E with manganese and other trace minerals support this master gland nutritionally. The Spirit of Truth nourishes it vibrationally. 

   These are also the pitch and color tone of our planet Earth, as we noted earlier.  What the Pituitary provides for the temple of the physical body, which is composed largely of water, the Earth provides for the Cathedral of our solar system. Our Home among the stars is the womb of life for our solar system, which I prefer calling a “Solar Entity” because of its role embodying the Great Spirit Creator. Ours is a water planet and water is the universal symbol for truth, the mother of all life. It is in the womb where the Spirit of Truth works her wonders in developing the embryonic form in the warm, wet darkness of amniotic fluid, bringing forth her perfect design and firm control with great ease and wisdom. . . .  Passion for the truth of love and of life nurtures an innate sensing in us for what is fitting in each moment as we seek ways to fit and blend our unique individual part with the parts of others around us without pushing or imposing.

The Gift of Wisdom

   Wisdom, the gift of the Spirit of the Womb, has been aptly defined as “the sense of the fitness of things.” It causes us to pause before we speak and act, to consider how what we bring and express may impact those close to us and in the larger whole. Timing is of the essence as well. Wisdom engenders in us a deep sense of caring for what life brings to us in each moment for blessing, and a genuine sense of respect for what others are bringing and handling in themselves. It compels us, as well as enables us, to look and see the essences back of all things and to perceive them vibrationally even before they manifest so as not to be overwhelmed or taken by surprise.

   Herein lies the essences of the Master’s instruction, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” All things in the natural world, our bodies included, emerge from out of the Creative Process operative within what was referred to by the Master as the “Kingdom of Heaven,” which is within us and all around us. 

   This passage has been interpreted to mean that we should go about doing what is required in order to “go to heaven” when we die.  What I hear being said here is that as I look first to the Father within me for my needs, and then make right use of the things that come to me from God out of heaven, everything will be provided for me to live life in this sphere of creation.

   This is not based on some kind of reward system but rather on the fact that all things emerge from out of the heaven, where the Creative Process works to create the patterns of new forms to clothe the Spirit of Life in all of its colorful diversity.  As co-creators we each have a part to play in birthing and caring for these new forms. The Spirit of the Womb is the wise Mother of Life who knows how things fit together so as to create a whole body that glorifies God and manifests the wonders of his love.

    We use the masculine gender when we refer to God, even though the Creative Process is both masculine and feminine.  In the Aramaic language, for example, the tongue Jesus spoke with the common folk of his day, the word for kingdom (malkutak) is feminine and more accurately translates as “queendom” rather than “kingdom.” In the Lord’s Prayer, the phrase in the Aramaic, “tete malkutak” actually commands “Let thy queendom come now!” Let the Spirit of the Womb, the Mother of Creation, or Mother God, come and provide a womb and all the material and processes of gestation and growth needed for this new creation. Even the Aramaic for “Our Father,” at the beginning of this ancient prayer, “Abwun,” translates, at best, as “O Father and Mother of all life,” or “O Breathing Life,” as scholar Neil Douglas-Klotz translates it in his tape series, Original Prayer

    This dual partnership is clearly portrayed in the anatomy and physiology of the Pituitary Gland itself, as previously noted, where two lobes provide both masculine and feminine functions for the Creative Process to bring forth life in the body temple. 

    Farther out in the world body we see this co-creative mechanism in place, to some extent anyway, between men and women working together to bring forth life on this planet. The masculine and the feminine aspects of God are reflected in the body of Mankind.  Here is the means by which the “kingdom of heaven” is made manifest on earth, and the “will of God” is done by the Father within, through the collective body. How we behave toward one another in relation to our shared role as co-creators and toward the things that emerge from God out of heaven by means of the Creative Process, is important to all of life on Earth. And the word righteousness is the key ingredient here, right-use-ness of things. “Waste not, want not,” as my mother-in-law, rest her soul, used to say. 

    Herein, as I have already suggested, may well be found a deeper meaning in the text of Moses’ seventh commandment, which instructed us to “Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Honor our Father who is Love and our Mother who is Truth, the means by which Life makes flesh and is born on Earth. We would do well to honor the womb of life instead of raping the Earth and exploiting the feminine aspect of our being. We do fit together as complements in a body of diversity. We discover this only as we love one another and embrace our differences.  Spiritual governance reveals itself naturally in a community that is founded upon a culture of love. — (from SACRED ANATOMY)
